Historic path visited in Sunniside

Whickham Councillors have carried out a site visit to one of the most historic routes in the Sunniside area.

Sandy Lonnen is a continuation of Hole Lane and extends from the junction of Hole Lane and Burnthouse Lane to Fellside Road.

Councillors Marilynn Ord, Mary Wallace and Jonathan Wallace visited the route on Friday 2nd November with Gateshead's Rights of Way Officer to look at issues about the state of the ground, flooding, fly tipping and general access.

The path is popular with people visiting Sunniside Park.

A very good start to a long standing problem. However, if you were to cross Fellside Road and follow the Lonnen onto the Derwent Walk, you'll see how poor, uneven and washed away this footpath this path is, which is steep in parts.

Apologies if you did.

Thanks for this. We didn't cross Fellside Rd so we didn't get to see the Lonnen in the Derwent Valley. However, now that you have raised this, we'll take a look.
