After a long campaign by local residents and Lib Dem Councillors to stop industrial units being put at Stella South, near Ryton, the Secretary of State gave planning permission for housing.
Site preparation is now underway and houses will be built over a period of five years. Plans will be displayed before building starts for residents to have a look at.
